Showrunner Russell T Davies has confirmed on Instagram that filming on the fourteenth season of the series, the first to feature Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, has wrapped.
Gatwa will be joined by Millie Gibson as the Time Lord’s newest companion Ruby Sunday in the season which is expected to run for eight episodes.
That new season will be preceded by the three David Tennant-led 60th anniversary specials along with a festive episode. Filming on the specials took place mid-last year and on Gatwa’s new run beginning in December last year in the UK.
Composer Murray Gold, who handled the scores for the modern era up to and including Peter Capaldi, returns and will once again work with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on his musical scores.
Also back is actress Bonnie Langford will reprise her role as Melanie Bush. Also joining the new season are Jonathan Groff, Indira Varma, Aneurin Barnard, Jinkx Monsoon, Lenny Rush and Jemma Redgrave, reprising her Kate Lethbridge-Stewart role.
Both the specials and the new series will air on Disney+ for international viewers as a part of a streaming deal between the BBC and Disney.
