Toho has announced “Godzilla Minus One,” the newest period live-action “Godzilla” movie which is set to premiere in Japan on November 3rd and will get a U.S. theatrical release on December 1st.
The story is set in an already devastated post-war Japan where the kaiju goes on a rampage, but further plot specifics are under wraps. Takashi Yamazaki, who handled the visual effects on 2016’s “Shin Godzilla,” returns to write and direct this outing.
This marks the second of the live-action Reiwa era “Godzilla” films following that 2016 entry. Three animated films for Netflix were also released as a part of that era.
The new film comes ahead of Legendary’s upcoming sequel to the “Godzilla vs. Kong” film with that movie, titled “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 15th next year. Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry lead the cast.
In addition, Apple TV+ and Legendary are also developing a live-action series adaptation of “Godzilla and the Titans,” which will also be set within the world of Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
“WandaVision” director Matt Shakman helms the first two episodes of the show starring Wyatt Russell, Kurt Russell and Kiersey Clemons.
